Preboarding and Onboarding

Settling into an executive position in a new organisation is not always straightforward. For some recruits, it may mean that moving up through the gears to delivery at their full potential takes longer than expected. For others, rarely, it may mean that the new employment relationship fails to gel, with the result that the placement fails and the position falls vacant again. Either of these results will be uncomfortable, distressing, frustrating - and certainly financially costly.

For this reason, SBP provide a pre-boarding and on-boarding programme that is designed to enable the new appointee to "hit the ground running" in their new role. Headed up by consultant psychologist mentor Dr Robert Sharpe, our team will attend the hiring company's offices by invitation and absorb the culture into which the recruit will be welcomed, familiarising themselves with those working and interpersonal patterns that are everyday behaviour. They will then spend time with the new recruit before joining the company in order to harmonise the recruit's expectations and prior working habits with what they know to be the patterns within the employing company. This pre-boarding phase prepares the recruit for fast entry into their new role.

Once joined, the new employee can continue to receive mentoring from the SBP team in order to blend their own personal style with the customs and practices of their new organisation. Any settling in problems can thus be addressed directly and practically so as to avoid a build up of any form of frustration that might distract or disengage the recruit from their core work.

Although most recruits find themselves well settled after a couple of months, their SBP mentor always remains available to them should there be any personal or work-related issues at any future date. Adopted in this way, pre-boarding and on-boarding provide a valuable adjunct to executive selection that significantly raises the effectiveness of the joining process.
